The Cameroonian community of Maryland is about to enjoy an event as flavorful as it is symbolic: the “Ndolé Nights”, an evening entirely devoted to one of the most emblematic culinary treasures of Cameroon.

Scheduled for Friday, December 19, 2025, from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., at the Afrikabana Lounge Center in Laurel (13501 Baltimore Ave, MD 20707), this gathering promises to celebrate a culinary heritage deeply rooted in national identity. With the tagline “Where Flavor Meets Heritage”, the event aims to bring together gastronomy, culture and community pride.

A Ndolé Contest at the Heart of the Evening

The highlight of the event: a big Ndolé contest, where participants will present their own versions of this legendary dish, whether traditional, reinvented, family-style or innovative.

The chair of the organizing committee, Jean Yves Makake, even made a special trip to Cameroon to bring back the precious ndolé leaves, an essential ingredient for an authentic dish. A highly symbolic gesture that shows the determination to preserve the original flavors of this heritage cuisine.

Ndolé: More Than a Dish, a Symbol

Far more than a recipe, Ndolé is a cultural marker, a festive dish that brings together families, regions and the diaspora. Considered one of the most popular cuisines of Cameroon, it is a fixture of ceremonies, celebrations and reunions, a true ambassador of Cameroonian terroir.

With its distinctive texture, recognizable aroma and many variations (with shrimp, beef, smoked fish, or mixed), Ndolé tells the story of a country, its flavors and its traditions.

A Cultural Evening Not to Be Missed

Blending gastronomy, music, conviviality and the celebration of heritage, Ndolé Nights is shaping up as one of the major events of the Cameroonian diaspora at the end of the year.
